This two-volume set contains 33 contributions (17 in v.1 and 16 in v.2) which provide access to a good deal of recent research and scholarship concerning the evolving roles of teachers. Among the topics addressed by contributing educators from several countries: the sequences of events in the lives and careers of teachers; teaching as a largely feminized occupation; the unique effects of national contexts on teachers; problems of American teachers; ideas that may help to improve the lives of teachers and their effects in schools; and the structure and functions of education in a rapidly changing, post-modern society.
